Domain Authority Checker
What Is Domain Authority?
Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). The score ranges from 1 to 100, with higher scores indicating stronger ranking potential.
DA is calculated based on multiple factors, including the number and quality of backlinks pointing to your domain, linking root domains, MozRank, MozTrust, and dozens of other signals. It uses a machine learning model that correlates these factors with actual search engine rankings.
DA is not a Google ranking factor — it is a predictive metric created by a third party. However, because it correlates with many of the same signals Google considers, it is a valuable benchmark for comparing websites and tracking SEO progress over time.

Understanding Your DA Score
DA 1-20: New or very small websites with few backlinks. Normal for recently launched sites.
DA 21-40: Growing websites with a developing backlink profile. Many small businesses fall here.
DA 41-60: Well-established sites with strong backlink profiles.
DA 61-80: Highly authoritative websites. Major brands and publications.
DA 81-100: The most authoritative domains on the internet.
Remember: DA is on a logarithmic scale. Moving from 20 to 30 is much easier than moving from 70 to 80.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Domain Authority a Google ranking factor?
No. DA is Moz's proprietary metric, not a signal used by Google's algorithm. However, it correlates with factors Google does consider, making it useful as a comparative benchmark.
How often does Domain Authority update?
Moz updates DA scores approximately once per month. Small fluctuations between updates are normal.
Why did my Domain Authority drop?
DA can decrease if you lose significant backlinks, if competing sites grow their profiles faster, or when Moz updates its algorithm.
What is the difference between DA and DR?
Domain Authority (DA) is Moz's metric, while Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs' equivalent. Both measure website authority but use different algorithms and databases.
Can I check DA for any website?
Yes. Our Domain Authority Checker works for any publicly accessible website.
